The Spirit Is Still Sending. Are You Available?

Pentecost was never just a moment in history. It was a movement with a direction: outward, into the cities, among the nations.

The same Spirit who came in fire at Jerusalem is still moving today through engineers in Shanghai, educators in Istanbul, and healthcare professionals in Amman. 

This prayer is for them. And it may be for you.

When the Spirit Moves, He Sends

Many Christians carry a quiet tension: I want to be part of what God is doing in the world, but I don't know if I am the right person to go.

Pentecost answers that directly. The first people to cross cultural and linguistic frontiers were not primarily religious professionals — they were ordinary people, filled with an extraordinary presence.  Their credibility was not their title. It was the Spirit working through their lives.

That same pattern repeats today. GLS has walked alongside more than 280 bi-vocational missionaries over 35 years: engineers, doctors, educators, and entrepreneurs who step into the marketplace of Asia and the Middle East carrying the gospel as a presence.

Prayer for the Spirit and Missional Sending

Holy Spirit, we welcome You. Help us to know You more. As You came in power at Pentecost, come again to ignite our hearts for mission. Equip us to be bold witnesses, carrying Your truth to the nations.

Strengthen us where we feel weak, embolden us where we hesitate, and remind us that Your power is made perfect in our weakness.

Unite us, God. At Pentecost, You tore down barriers, allowing people of different backgrounds, languages, and cultures to hear and receive the same message. In a world divided, let Your Spirit bring oneness to the Church, that we may join hands to serve Your kingdom with humility, grace, and love.

Send us, Lord. As the Gospel spread beyond Jerusalem, may it continue to reach every tribe, tongue, and nation, fulfilling Your command in Acts 1:8. Lead us into places of darkness, where Your light can shine. May our lives be living testimonies, reflecting Your goodness wherever we go.

Revive us, O God. Let Pentecost be a fresh outpouring of grace upon Your people every day. Restore passion where there is weariness, renew hope where there is doubt, and awaken us to Your divine purpose. Breathe life into dry places and let the fire of Your Spirit burn brightly in us.

We surrender to You, Holy Spirit. Empower, unite, send, and renew us, to the glory of Christ and the advancement of God's kingdom. Amen.

What It Looks Like to Live This Prayer

This prayer doesn't end with "Amen." For the bi-vocational professional, it continues wherever they work. 

Pray it before your workday, not just on Sundays. The Spirit moves in markets and campuses, not just in churches. When you pray "go with me" before a meeting with local colleagues, you are already bringing the presence of God into your workplace.

Let weakness be your testimony, not your disqualification. It’s about authenticity—letting my own story become the book people read: how Jesus met me in my weakness or confusion, how the gospel reshaped my thinking, my fears, and my perspective, and how He empowered me to live with hope and courage. When we share stories like these, others recognize themselves in our journey and think, I want this too.

Ask God to show you the city you are already in. Pentecost began in a specific city, with specific people. The Spirit works through real relationships in real places.

This prayer is not only for those already on the field. It is for the person sitting with a quiet sense that God may be asking something more.
